The Youth
Program (Torah Teens) at the Family Chavurah combines
elements of learning, community service, and social
activities. Our youngsters (post Bar/Bat Mitzvah) get
together once a month on a Sunday.
Every month
has a specific topic which is explored. We spend the first
45 to 60 minutes learning the Jewish way to approach that
topic, through biblical and modern texts. We then spend the
next hour participating in a community service project
related to the subject.
After that, the youngsters socialize
and enjoy dinner together.
Here is an
example of topics we discuss:
- helping the
needy
- taking care of the environment
- visiting the elders
- visiting the sick
- taking care of animals
Who: Middle and High-School students
What: A fun group that will meet one
Sunday per month to learn about how Torah and Jewish
traditions relate to our actions. Each session, kids
will meet with Rabbi Lilienthal for a brief discussion,
followed by doing relevant mitzvah activity.
Afterwards, we’ll go out for dinner!
When: Dates for 2010 to be announced
Other projects
in the planning stages include collecting items for Humane
Society of Broward County, Broward Waterway Cleanup, visit
to a local nursing home, visit to a food bank, Chai
Lifeline, and much more!
Come on out
with other kids from the Family Chavurah and show how much
you care! Community Service Hours will be rewarded.
